US Bishop Labels Gaza Civilian Deaths ‘A Holocaust of Our Time’
“As you said, I think Carrie was removed because they didn’t like the truth she was speaking. The truth about Gaza, which is verboten by many. The innocents that have devastatingly died there is just horrible,” Bishop Joseph Strickland said in an interview published Monday. “It truly is a holocaust of our time,” he added.
Boller, formerly a member of the US Religious Liberty Commission, was removed earlier this month after criticizing Zionism and urging panelists to condemn Israel’s actions in its war against Hamas in Gaza. Strickland said her dismissal was a response to the content of her statements rather than her manner of delivery.
The bishop said he reached out to Boller to offer support and later publicly backed her stance.
“I knew that if I was going to be the man I wanted to be, if I was going to be the Christian that I want to be, I had to speak up … basically say Carrie was removed from that committee because she was speaking truth,” he said.
The interview also touched on Israel’s police-enforced closure of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Strickland criticized the measure as “basically totalitarian,” noting clergy were barred from entering to livestream Mass. He argued that the closures and attacks on civilians reflected fear of religious and moral truth, saying, “What it tells me is that truth is threatening,” and highlighting the broader impact on innocent people and sacred sites.
