Terrorist Attack in Western Niger Leaves Seven Dead

(MENAFN) Seven individuals, among them Torodi Prefect Captain Chaibou Mali and his family, lost their lives in a terrorist assault in western Niger, according to Tele Sahel on Tuesday.

The country’s Defense and Security Forces reacted promptly to the overnight strike on Sunday, eliminating one assailant immediately and several others as they tried to escape following a precision airstrike, the report noted.

Authorities have since initiated a combined air and ground campaign aimed at "dismantling terrorist cells operating in the area, neutralize their local networks and sustainably degrade their operational capabilities."

During the operation, troops seized a motorcycle registered in a neighboring nation, along with a firearm and a communications device, the report added.

Investigators said the motorcycle offered "tangible evidence" that the assault was part of "a structured, cross-border terrorist dynamic benefiting not only from local complicity but also from logistical, informational and operational support amounting to a genuine strategic sponsor."
