Russia Unveils Plans to Modernize Military

(MENAFN) Russia intends to upgrade its nuclear triad and create a universal air defense system under its forthcoming state armament program for 2027-2036, the Kremlin announced on Friday.

"Special attention is being paid to building up the capabilities of the ground forces, maintaining and modernizing the nuclear triad, developing a universal air defense system, and increasing the export potential of Russian weapons and equipment," the statement added.

The State Armament Program acts as a strategic planning document, outlining the development, production, and upkeep of weapons and military equipment to ensure they remain combat-ready.

Endorsed by the Russian president every five years, the decade-long program is designed to tackle both present and anticipated national security threats.

By December 2025, the framework for the 2027-2036 period had been finalized and awaits formal approval. The program emphasizes a methodical modernization of the armed forces, taking into account real-world combat experience and evolving global challenges.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently highlighted that the nation’s nuclear forces are 92% modernized, asserting that no other country in the world has achieved a comparable level of advancement.
