U.S. Launches Strikes Against Drug-Trafficking Ships in Pacific Ocean
The military operation unfolded in international waters under orders from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, with Joint Task Force Southern Spear carrying out the assault, the command confirmed.
US Southern Command stated that surveillance data had verified the targets' involvement in illegal narcotics transportation.
"Intelligence confirmed that the vessels were transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and were engaged in narco-trafficking," the command announced.
The strike proved lethal across all three watercraft targeted in the coordinated action.
"A total of eight male narco-terrorists were killed during these actions—three in the first vessel, two in the second and three in the third," the command reported on X, the social media platform owned by the US company.
The precision operation marks an escalation in Washington's interdiction efforts against maritime drug trafficking networks operating in Pacific shipping lanes.
