Iraq’s Election Objections Won’t Alter Preliminary Results
“All objections submitted so far are classified as complaints only,” Hassan Salman, the commission’s legal adviser, told a state news agency. “It is not possible to file an appeal against preliminary results.”
Salman explained that complaints are divided into three types: “yellow,” which are minor and dismissed on procedural grounds; “green,” which require examination and must be resolved within 72 hours; and “red,” which could potentially influence the results.
He added that the commission “has not recorded any red complaints so far.”
The legal adviser mentioned that addressing the complaints “may be faster than in previous elections” and could be completed by next week.
Concerning polling stations whose outcomes have not yet been reported, he attributed the hold-up to minor technical difficulties, noting that the small number of affected stations does not impact the announced results.
Salman also stated that once the Board of Commissioners, the commission’s highest administrative and regulatory body, certifies the final outcomes, appeals will be allowed for three days, with the board reviewing them within seven days.
