Over 1,100 Trucks Remain Stranded at Belarus-Lithuania Border
In a statement posted to X, the ministry confirmed stranded trucks "are being moved to safe parking zones," adding that drivers are receiving permission to depart on "humanitarian considerations."
Belarus accused Vilnius of triggering the transportation nightmare, asserting that "all losses stem from Vilnius's politicized actions."
Earlier this week, Lithuania announced the shutdown of multiple border checkpoints with Belarus, pointing to national security threats connected to Russia's ongoing military offensive in Ukraine and Minsk's deepening alliance with Moscow.
The standoff marks a sharp deterioration in relations between Belarus and neighboring European Union states. Last month, Lithuania sealed its border entirely, alleging that Minsk was orchestrating cigarette smuggling operations via hot air balloons.
In a retaliatory move on Oct. 31, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko enacted a decree banning Polish and Lithuanian commercial trucks from entering the country through the end of 2027.
