Sudan’s Foreign Minister Criticizes Silence Over RSF “Violations”
These statements were made during Salem’s meeting in Port Sudan with the Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope, who is in Sudan for a five-day visit, according to an official news agency.
Salem condemned “the international community’s silence over the ongoing violations committed by the RSF in El-Fasher and Bara,” and emphasized “the need for concerted international efforts to designate the RSF as a terrorist organization.”
He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to enabling humanitarian operations and safeguarding humanitarian workers.
Salem also underscored the ongoing collaboration with the IOM, particularly in initiatives that aid the voluntary repatriation of Sudanese migrants.
Sudan continues to grapple with an escalating humanitarian catastrophe stemming from the violent confrontation between the national army and the RSF since April 2023—a conflict that has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions across the country.
Pope expressed “solidarity with Sudan following the recent RSF takeover of El-Fasher and the grave, widespread violations committed against residents and civilians, which forced large numbers to flee to the areas of al-Dabba in the Northern State and Tawila in North Darfur,” as reported by the news agency.
