(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reportedly deliberated over the potential replacement of Kyiv’s current envoy to Washington during a recent phone conversation held on Friday.
This information was shared by a news outlet on Monday, referencing an individual knowledgeable about the situation.
As outlined in the report, several prominent Ukrainian officials are being considered to succeed Oksana Markarova.
The possible successors include Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and Energy Minister German Galushchenko.
The same source indicated that President Zelenskyy directed the Foreign Ministry to initiate discussions with the American side regarding the ambassadorial appointment.
Markarova assumed her diplomatic post as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States in February 2021.
Commenting on the phone conversation via X, Zelenskyy referred to it as a “very important and fruitful” exchange, even calling it “probably the best conversation we’ve had so far.”
